Description:

A RITUAL SICKLE KNIFE (tib. rdo rje‘i gri gug)
Tibet, 18th/ 19th c.
L. 21 cm
Certain deities hold the sickle knife in their right method hand, in conjunction with the skull bowl of the left wisdom hand. Foremost among these is Mahakala, but numerous dakinis also hold these tools in their hands. These two attributes, the cleaver and a blood-filled skull bowl, are symbols of realisation of method and wisdom. The sickle or cleaver is originally a tool for skinning animals, and represents the severing of attachments.
From an old and important German private collection, collected between 1950 and 1987, collection no. R 35 - Traces of age

Sichelmesser (tib. rdo rje‘i gri gug)
Tibet, 18./ 19. Jh.
L. 21 cm
R 35 - Altersspuren
