A RARE AND IMPORTANT KALAGA HANGING WITH SCENES FROM THE LEGENDS OF PRINCESS MANOHARI

Woolen fabric, strong red; appliqués of cotton fabrics, partly painted. The very large cross hanging shows in a central field in a landscape various scenes, probably from the legends about the Princess Manohari. The clothing shows the fashion in Burma in the late 19th c. The wide frame with squares with indented corners, filled with flowering branches. Woolen fabrics of this type were imported from the West in the late 19th c.

Wollgewebe, kräftig Rot; Applikationen aus Baumwollstoffen, teils bemalt. Der sehr große Querbehang zeigt in einem zentralen Feld in einer Landschaft verschiedene Szenen, die wohl aus der Geschichte um die Prinzessin Manohari stammen. Die Kleidung zeigt die Mode in Burma im späten 19. Jahrhundert. Im breiten Rahmen sind Quadrate mit eingezogenen Ecken gesetzt, in denen Blütenzweige stehen. Wollgewebe dieser Art wurden im späten 19. Jh aus dem Westen importiert.
