Description:

A LARGE COURT BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN JARDINIÈRE ‚PENJIANG JI‘
China, Kangxi period, ca. 1680–1700
D. 47 cm
Its belly is continously decorated with kui dragons stylised in the manner of vanilla orchids ‚xiang cao long‘. This type of pattern was popular in the early Ming dynasty and was revived in the Kangxi period. Jardinières of this kind were planted with bonsai trees or sweet sedge, a fragnant marshland grass. Small taihu rocks were placed in between to simulate landscape. The court possessed a great number of porcelain jardinières, some of which were bought from private kilns during the Qing dynasty. The Palace museum Beijing owns an identical jardinière to form a pair. Wood stand.
Collection of the government builder Hoffmann, Kaiserdamm 74, Berlin-Charlottenburg, sold from his estate by a family member to the present owner January 2001, the original invoice from China Bohlken, inv. no. 379 (RM 270.-) is still preserved

China, Kangxi-Periode, ca. 1680 - 1700
D. 47 cm
